Guide to Loving Your Skin this Fall
Want to maintain your summer glow all year? As skincare experts, we’re excited to share our fall skincare guide.
Autumn ushers in beautiful foliage, cooler temperatures, and lower humidity. However, with the return of indoor heating, dry skin can become a concern. Here’s how to adjust your skincare routine for fall and address any summer sun damage.
Why Update Your Skincare Routine for Fall?
Seasonal changes bring shifts in the environment, and your skincare routine should adapt accordingly. In Canada, the drop in humidity and the use of indoor heating during fall can dry out your skin. Cooler winds can also lead to dryness and chafing. Adapting your skincare routine to these changes is essential for maintaining healthy, hydrated skin.
Don’t Skip the SPF
Keep using sunscreen throughout the fall. UV radiation is a year-round issue, and UVA rays—capable of penetrating window glass—still pose risks in cooler months, contributing to skin aging and cancer. Apply (and re-apply) an SPF 30 or higher daily, regardless of the season. Look for labels that say “UVA & UVB” or “Broad Spectrum.”

Moisturizing is Key
Switch from a lighter summer lotion to a more hydrating option or add a hydrating serum beneath your moisturizer.

- Alumier Hydra Light (for oily and acne-prone skin)
Update Your Cleanser
Your summer clarifying cleanser might be too harsh for fall. Opt for a gentler cleanser that nourishes and hydrates. You might also find that a toner is unnecessary during the drier months.

- ZO Exfoliating Cleanser (for oilier or combination skin)
- ZO Hydrating Cleanser (for drier skin)
Add an Exfoliator- just not too often!
While frequent exfoliation is great in summer, scale back to once a week in the fall. Use a gentle exfoliant to avoid over-drying your skin.

Invest in a Humidifier
Turn on your humidifier as soon as you start using your furnace. This helps maintain moisture levels in your home (and office, if you work from home), supporting skin hydration.
Avoid Hot Water
Wash your face with warm water and rinse with cooler water. Hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils. Keep this is mind in the shower too!
Incorporate a Vitamin C Serum
Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that protects against environmental damage and evens out skin tone. It also boosts collagen production, which can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles from sun exposure.

Reassess Your Anti-Aging Products
With the drier, colder weather, you might need to adjust the frequency of retinoids and chemical exfoliants like alpha hydroxy acids to prevent over-drying.

Top requested fall treatments:
1. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photo rejuvenation: This non-invasive treatment enhances skin color, tone, and texture by targeting sun damage, discoloration, fine lines, and pore size. It’s ideal for fall when your skin isn’t tanned. IPL can also treat acne by using laser heat to kill bacteria. It’s effective for treating sun damage and acne on your chest and hands.
2. Microdermabrasion: This treatment exfoliates the outer layer of your skin, addressing clogged pores, brown spots, and sun damage. It’s safe for all skin types, including tanned skin. Our Bela MD Facial includes microdermabrasion and offers hydration, toning, and deep cleansing.
3. Microneedling: Microneedling is an excellent choice for treating all kind of pigments. Especially melasma since IPL isn't effective for this condition. This procedure works by breaking up pigment-producing cells and encouraging the regeneration of the skin's top layers. Not only can microneedling help lighten skin, but it also offers a range of other benefits and is generally well-tolerated by various skin types and tones. By updating your skincare routine for fall and addressing any summer damage, you’ll keep your complexion glowing throughout the fall and winter seasons.
