What are Neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators, like Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Nucevia, are injectable treatments that temporarily relax muscles. They’re most commonly used to reduce wrinkles and fine lines on the face, but they can also treat conditions like chronic migraines, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms.

What Do They Do?

These treatments use a purified version of botulinum toxin to block signals from your nerves to your muscles. When the muscles can't tighten or contract as strongly, it smooths out wrinkles and helps create a more youthful, relaxed appearance. It works by targeting the muscles that cause frown lines, crow's feet, and forehead wrinkles. They can also help prevent new wrinkles from forming by reducing muscle movement.

What to Expect During Treatment

The procedure is quick and usually takes around 10-15 minutes. Your provider will use a fine needle to inject the neuromodulator into specific areas of your face. Most people report minimal discomfort, and you may feel a slight pinching or stinging sensation during the injections. No anesthesia is typically needed, though some people may use a numbing cream to make the process more comfortable.

Downtime After Treatment

One of the big advantages of neuromodulator injections is that there’s minimal downtime. After treatment, you can usually return to your normal activities right away. However, you should avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas, as this can cause the product to spread to unintended muscles. You may experience slight redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites, but these effects are usually mild and go away within a few hours to a day.

It’s also recommended that you avoid strenuous exercise or lying down for the first few hours after treatment, as this helps ensure the product stays in place and works effectively.

How Long Do the Results Last?

The effects of neuromodulators typically last 3-6 months. Over time, the muscles gradually regain their ability to move, and the wrinkles may begin to reappear. Many people choose to get touch-up treatments every few months to maintain their smooth appearance.

In short, neuromodulators are a safe, quick, and effective way to reduce wrinkles and treat other conditions without significant downtime.
